At Journawell, we don’t just talk about travel; we live it. One of our most unforgettable trips took us to Albania, where we spent our honeymoon during the height of the COVID pandemic. Despite the challenges of travel restrictions, we embraced the adventure by renting a car and driving through beautiful cities like Durres, Vlore, and Tirana. During our time in Albania, we found ourselves stopping at petrol stations, which were a unique part of the local culture. What seemed like simple refuelling stops often transformed into lively meeting points. Locals would gather at these stations, enjoying coffee or lattes at small cafés, and chatting with one another. It was fascinating to witness how these spots doubled as social hubs. Though no one spoke a word of English, we managed to communicate through a mix of pointing, smiling, and a handful of choice words like "hello" and "thank you"—and somehow, we got by, laughing at how easily we understood each other despite the language barrier.
Our time in Albania was filled with memories like these. We ventured through picturesque streets, sampling new foods and learning about the country’s rich cultural heritage. The experience inspired us so much that we even got matching Albania tattoos to commemorate the trip. But don’t worry, we’ve got matching Turkey tattoos too! Albania will always hold a special place in our hearts, and it’s a reminder that some of the best experiences are found off the beaten path.

Visiting these camps was a humbling and poignant journey into history, especially when we toured the chambers that felt almost surreal—like we had stepped into a film from that era. The atmosphere was indescribable, and it was hard not to feel the weight of the past as we walked through the grounds. In addition to the solemn history of the camps, we spent time exploring the Jewish quarters, where we sampled traditional Polish delicacies and immersed ourselves in the culture of the area.
